Covered for a driver on the Checker Auto Parts account in Commerce, CA today. Ran his route to San Diego and back, and then around the LA area. Didn't get done until LATE at night.
Once I got back in my truck, I realized that I ran the whole day without my wallet. Oops.  Went to the Danon Water plant in Mt Shasta City today. Arrived there before sunrise. Very pretty. Right on the slopes of Mt Shasta.
Back in Phoenix at last! Time to load up the truck with all the stuff I'll need...like tools and sheets and pillow cases and flashlight batteries and...
 At last! Work! I'm to pick up a trailer in Ontario, drop it in Fullerton, pick up a loaded trailer there and make two stops in Tucson.
Ooookkkkkkkk. I can do this. Sh#T...the good road on the map is closed for major construction and I'm trapped into entering the Ontario Airport. Aha...there's a nice empty parking lot to turn around in. Now I'm set. Just have to route around the closure and not violate any No-Truck routes. Met with my new STL (Service Team Lead) today. Seems to be nice, but I wish he'd let me go to work! I drove a whole 16 miles today. And that was to WalMart and back. I need to clean this thing soon. It's clean enough for the moment.
What do you mean I don't have a motel room? You hand me a set of truck keys and tell me to rough it? But, I don't have a blanket, pillow or anything! I'm too delicate for this. But at least my truck number is easy to remember. 34340!
Hey, the Training Engineer that helped my class in Jumpstart has offered to give me a ride to Walmart to pick up pillows and bedding. I can get a nice sleeping bag in the company store. Maybe I can handle this after all. Now I need to get routed home to pick up my other stuff. Received a call from my STL. He has a driver unloading in Phoenix that will shuttle me to Fontana to get my truck and have my "face to face" meeting with my STL.
I PASSED! I am now a licensed Commercial Driver! Now I have to wait for everything to catch up and get assigned my truck. Monday is what I'm told.
Completed my Skills Qualification Test today! I have to hustle back to Phoenix and take my CDL test tomorrow at the USTDS yard there.

CategoriesI find that I do my best thinking while the wheels are rolling the miles away. Unfortunately most of that deep thinking doesn't stick around when I'm done driving. I find that more urgent things take my attention and the earth-saving ideas I had quietly slip into the haze of half-remembered feelings and emotions. I should get a voice recorder or something. I'll have to remember to do that.
